Maitai Retreat is tucked away on a quiet, private lane off Nile Street, surrounded by trees and native bird-life. The main house has French doors opening up to create a seamless indoor-outdoor flow, while the spacious detached sleep-out, offers a private and comfortable space with its own entrance, bathroom, and kitchenette - ideal for extra guests or those seeking a little more privacy.

The property offers everything you need for a relaxed and comfortable stay, with plenty of space to unwind. When in season, enjoy fresh fruit from the garden, including avocados, figs, lemons, plums, and pears, and relax in the large cedar hot tub, which comfortably fits up to six people. The front deck and courtyard offer a great place to sit back and enjoy the surroundings, with space for kids to play or for a quiet moment.

All utilities, linens & towels, use of all listed property amenities, pantry & sanitary basics, departure linen service & standard housekeeping up to 3.5 hours will be included in your booking.

Extra charges will apply where additional cleaning, BBQ or oven cleaning or excessive rubbish disposal is required.

All high contact, food preparation and hard wet surfaces are hygienically cleaned and sanitised and our linens are professionally laundered at 80ºC, with bed linens further ironed at 120ºC by one of New Zealand's leading laundry experts, leaving them crisp, clean & superbly comfortable!

?Beehive - There is a small beehive in the garden at the back of the house, away from the main outdoor areas. This is a rented hive from Backyard Bees. The bees are quite happy doing their own thing and are interesting to watch from a distance.???

Cat resident here - Maitai Retreat is home to Shadow the cat. While staying we ask that you please feed Shadow. Dried food will be left along with instructions. There is no litter tray for Shadow, as she is very low-maintenance. She has a feeder connected to her collar, allowing food to be added to her dish in the morning. The dish has a cover, so it can be left out, and Shadow helps herself when she’s hungry. There is a cat flap, so she comes and goes as she pleases, but she generally stays near people. She has a very quiet meow and doesn’t hassle anyone for food—she’s a very laid-back cat.

Personal home - This home is made available to guests on an occasional basis & is occupied by the property owners at other times. As a result, you'll enjoy access to a superbly equipped home with the minor trade-off that you may see some personal items & that some spaces may be dedicated to the storage of owner belongings.

Steps - Please note there are two-steps onto the deck at the front of the house and a half-flight of steps from the back deck to the back lawn. There are no stairs or steps inside the house or sleepout. The steps front and back are clearly shown in photographs.

Cedar Hot Tub and Outdoor Shower - The hot tub is heated year round by a combination of solar panels and mains electricity. 40 Litre low tech outdoor shower is fed by a hose-pipe and water heats up in the thermal collector. Perfect for rinsing off before jumping in the hot tub. 

Use of the hot tub is not permitted after 10pm due to local regulations & the proximity of neighbouring properties that may be affected by noise.

Check in & Check out?

Check-in is possible anytime after 3pm or from 1pm where the option of early check-in has been purchased..

Early check-in (1pm and in some cases earlier) can usually be offered for an additional charge. Please request this at the time of booking or at least 24 hours prior to your arrival.

Check-out is to be completed by 10am on your day of departure unless ‘Late check-out’ has been purchased.

Late check-out (by 12pm/noon or as agreed in writing) can usually be offered for an additional charge. This request should be made at the time of booking or at least 24 hours prior to your departure.
